Reading some raw food testimonials changed our lives!

Like the typical family nowadays we seemed to be always feeling ill. Picking up viruses, sickness and diarrhoea bugs, feeling tired all the time and much more.

There were times where we felt not too bad and tried our best to eat healthy. We used vitamin and mineral supplements, ate fruit and vegetables and the odd bit of juicing. (Well we thought this was healthy!)

We would pick ourselves up and a few weeks later – bam! We were floored again.

On top of all this I suffered from endometriosis, M.E. and allergies< b>. My partner suffered from breathing problems, sleeping problems and cerebreal eczema. Our daughter suffered the most with allergies, asthma and eczema.

How Did It Work For Us?

After doing indepth reading of raw food testimonials I gradually introduced the raw food diet into our lives.

I knew from doing detox diets before that the symptoms of cleansing the body can be pretty nasty and can mimic flu-like symptoms. Also your skin can get very itchy. This is because the skin is the largest organ of the body and is mainly where the body excretes acids and toxins.

The first thing we needed to do was drink lots of alkalizing water – approximately 1 liter for every 30lbs of body weight.

I noticed a difference within a few days of taking lots more water (I’d always disliked taking water and now understood why I was so ill).

The alkalizing water tasted much better and after a couple of days I started to really enjoy taking it and also I started to crave it! Unheard of!

After about a week I couldn’t believe how healthy my skin looked and I started to feel more energetic and could think clearer – not as much “brain fog”!

Transition From Illness to Wellness

Introducing raw foods was a challenge at times. We found it hard to cope with all the recipes at first so this is what we did to make it much easier to incorporate:


  1. We had a glass of raw juiced fruit and vegetables almost every day.
  2. We gradually increased our water intake to the required level of 1 liter per 30lbs body weight. We also used an Alkalark water container to drink our water. (The Alkalark is an amazing creation – it contains essential minerals that alkalize the water which helps to eliminate acids and toxins from the body)
  3. We added green powder to at least 1 litre of our water per day. (Green powder is full of enzymes from wheatgrasses and other green vegetables.)
  4. We had at least one large bowl of mixed raw fruit and vegetables a day to munch on.
  5. Eat lots of salads with sprouts – using Braggs amino acids and Herb dressings to add flavour!
  6. I have the occassional cooked meal – usually steamed vegetables and wholegrain rice. My partner has a steamed cooked meal most days and my two children have a cooked meal everyday (usually steamed).
  7. We also experimented with different smoothies using lots of raw organic ingredients.
  8. Also incoporated many superfoods, including goji berries and cacao nibs – the kids love these! Particularly as you can make desserts with them!
  9. Also love eating raw almonds and other raw nuts as well as Gillian McKeith’s Cookie Bites which are full of living enzymes!
  10. We experimented occassionally with recipes for main meals.

Overall we just love munching on raw foods. Never in a million years did I think I would enjoy eating this way or that I wouldn’t miss my chocolate, diet cokes and pancakes!

Every living cell in your body depends on water for nourishment, elimination of waste, insulation, and cooling. Unfortunately, many people do not realize the importance of drinking healthy water.

Water Pollution

Drinking water, like every other substance, contains small amounts of bacteria. Most of these bacteria are common ones and they are generally not harmful.

However, due to our declining environment, most of our water is now highly polluted with toxins. Water pollution affects our drinking water, rivers, lakes and oceans all over the world. This consequently harms our health and the natural environment.

Our body is composed mostly of water. Depending on our age and gender, the percentage of water ranges from 60% – 80%. Our brain is made up of 83% water and our lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water.

Our blood is also made up of mostly water, which is essential for efficiently transporting nutrients, helping to eliminate waste, and control body temperature. Research now suggests that to keep our body properly hydrated we need to drink 1 liter for every 30 pounds of body weight. So a 9 stone woman should be consuming about 4 liters of healthy water.

Drinking enough water is not the only requirement to keep hydrated but so is the type of water you drink. Most of our water is now polluted due to environmental toxins and chemicals. This causes it to be acidic which is not healthy for our body. Drinking alkaline water is highly recommended – particularly one that has a ph of 8.0 – 9.5 or higher.

Eat the Right Foods

The foods that we eat will determine how much water we get. There are two types of foods – acidic and alkaline. Acidic foods are mostly processed and most fruits and vegetables are alkaline. Acidic foods will dehydrate our body whereas alkaline foods will hydrate our body as they are made up mostly of water.

Fruit juices are more concentrated in sugar than our body’s fluids and so the body will attempt to dilute them in the gut thereby causing a loss of water from other areas of the body.

Coffee, tea, sodas and other beverages should not be substitutes for water. It is true that you get liquid from these drinks, but you also get chemicals, dyes and empty calories that do not promote health. Sodas, not only are high in calories, but are also high in phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid draws calcium from bones and is the main reason more people are suffering from osteoporosis.

Consequences of Dehydration

If we don’t consume enough water to sustain our vital organs it can be detrimental to our health. Not drinking enough water is the number one reason we suffer from daytime fatigue. When the brain suffers from poor hydration, mental fogginess, poor short term memory, headaches, dizziness, and poor balance occurs. Not to mention skin problems too.

Dehydration triggers a reaction in histamine production. This is dangerous for asthmatics as water is needed in the lungs to keep the tissues moist, but each time we exhale, we expel moisture from our lungs. When properly hydrated the moisture is replaced very quickly. However, in a dehydrated state, the tissues inside the lungs become coated with mucus to prevent drying – triggering an asthmatic attack.

This is also the case for all allergies, including eczema.

Not drinking enough water also has an adverse affect on our body’s ability to regulate its temperature. This change causes our body to hold on to fat. This is just one of the many ways the body ensures its survival. Lack of water can also lead to over eating as our brain does not differentiate between hunger and thirst.

This is also very bad for our skin – particularly in today’s image concsious society – it makes it look old, leathery, and full of premature wrinkles.
