Prune Juice for constipation is an old natural laxative remedy for children and adults.  As a young child I suffered terribly with constipation and remember having to eat alot of prunes (which I found rather revolting).  I even remember sitting on a potty of hot steam – my Mum tried anything she knew was natural to help!

Prunes are dried plums which are full of natural fibre which helps to loosen stools and relieve the pain of constipation.  Essentially most fruits will help relieve constipation as it has a high water content but Prune juice is often used more effectively because of the added sucrose and sorbitol which can often cause diarrhea.

Constipation Help

It was only in recent years of trying different natural health remedies that I found a more natural alternative to using prune juice for treating constipation.  Drinking at least 2 litres of alkalizing water combined with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables is by far the most effective way to keep your bowel movements regular.  This avoids any bouts of diarrhea or constipation.

I also found herbal teas to be very effective and, in particular, laxative teas.  I drink 1 cup of lax tea in the evening and by the morning I have a regular bowel movement.  Another great way to flush out your colon and releive constipation is by using a salt water solution, though it does taste pretty awful.

Becoming dehydrated is the main reason for becoming constipated.  Of course prune juice is a laxative and will help, but an ideal drink would be natural fruit and vegetables that are juiced combined with lots of water.

Treating constipation naturally through drinking either prune juice, other fruits juices and water is by far more effective and healthy in the long term than purging your body with lots of laxative tablets.
